Donation tax rules: gifts to organisations recognised as "charitable" or "religious" by the Tanzania Revenue Authority may be deducted from an individual's or entity's taxable income, but the deduction cannot exceed 2% of the donor's income (Income Tax Act). Charitable status is not automatic — it must be granted by the Commissioner General and, for exemptions, published in the Government Gazette. Check the status of the receiving body before promising a deduction.
